MISSOURI – May is National Mental Health Awareness Month. The National Institute of Mental Health states there are around 47 million adults 18 or older in the United States who suffer from some form of mental illness.

Mathew Gass is the Central Region President for Burrell Behavioral Health. Gass said they have geared their services to individualized treatment because as times change, so do people and their needs.

Therapy not only helps us understand our human natures better but it also brings awareness about the environments we live in.

Gass said there is an important need for mental health outreach in schools.

Changes in our lives and advancements in technology have given way to teletherapy. The way we can communicate today has changed the landscape of our conversations. People do not even have to leave their homes to connect with healthcare providers.
