CARROLLTON, Mo. – On the holiday when we celebrate America’s independence, one area church will also be honoring its hometown heroes on Carrollton’s picturesque square.
The invitation list is large for all who serve Carroll County. Members of law enforcement, fire, emergency medical responders and healthcare providers in the county are all welcome, said organizer Butch Endicott of Southside Baptist Church of Carrollton.
Sometimes difficult and turbulent times inspires acts of good will.
“It came to me, divine intervention, if you will,” Endicott says. “We needed to do something for these folks in light of all the things that’s been going on this year, and just how much we appreciate each and every one of them and what they do for us on a daily basis.”
Other Carroll County churches are also sharing in the celebration.
“Southside is hosting it, but certainly we love the participation of other churches in this. We have several pastors who’ll be doing the prayer rally parts for us. And several different churches say they want to donate desserts for the fish fry — and we all the love the desserts,” Endicott said with enthusiasm. “That’s exciting to see everybody getting involved in it. It’s a countywide thing.”
The event on July 4 begins at 3 p.m., with music and prayer rallies, and ends at 9 p.m. prior to Carrollton Fire Department’s firework display at dusk. The free-will donation fish fry is from 5 to 7 p.m. Of course, it free to the hometown heroes. In case of rain, the event will take place at the church’s multi-purpose room, 301 Shanklin St. in Carrollton.
