Click to hear KMZU’s Ashley Johnson speak with Community Outreach Coordinator Stephanie Fraley:
After a full year of dedication and hard work, 2014 Healthy U participants will be celebrated for their accomplishments next week. Fraley said the “Night of Inspiration” event will be filled with stories of success. “Their journey is very public and we hope that will inspire others in the community to get healthy, as well,” said Fraley, “We give each student a fitness and nutrition coach for an entire year and they have weekly support group meetings. So, they have a lot of support and tools at their disposal to help them make those long-term lifestyle changes.”
The evening will also see the introduction of the 12 individuals selected for the 2015 program. “It’s actually a very competitive process,” said Fraley, “We received 83 applications for those 12 slots. So, we blindly select the top 25. There are no demographics on those applications, so we rank them based on how the application is filled out and then we interview the top 25. There’s a selection panel of three individuals where we ultimately make the decision of the 12 students we’re going to select.”
The event is scheduled for Thursday, January 8th at 6:30 p.m. at the Stauffacher Theatre on the State Fair Community College. Those planning to attend are asked to R.S.V.P. to Stephanie Fraley at 827-9138 by January 7th.
