Click to hear KMZU’s Kristie Cross speak with North Missouri Center for Youth and Families Executive Director Daniel Savage:
2014 was a successful year for the North Missouri Center for Youth and Families in Chillicothe as they officially opened their doors and kicked off programming. “In June, we had our official open house with the finishing of our remodel project here in our facility,” said Savage, “This past September, we opened our doors and are now licensed for 50 kids each day after school for Power-Up. We’ve got an average daily attendance around 40 and we do all kinds of things with the kids. We have homework assistance and tutoring. We also do character building, career exploration, and we have partnerships now with the University of Missouri Extension.”
The new year is certain to see more excitement from the center. “We’re still getting our feet wet and learning how things plan out,” said Savage, “We would like to look into the possibility of having some sort of summer program, but with summer school now being more of an extended full-day program, we’re not sure what the need will be and a lot of that will depend on the financial situation, as well. But we are considering that option and even starting to consider opening some programs in the outlying communities.”
The program depends on private donations for its continued success. If you’d like to get involved, you’re encouraged to contact Savage at 660-646-1352 or by email at [email protected] More information can also be found at the program’s Facebook page.
