Daniel Savage

The North Missouri Center for Youth and Families has teamed up with North Central Missouri College to offer some students a great chance to help their future.  “When they come and volunteer with us, we get them into our learning center, which is coordinated by Missouri certified teachers or former teachers,” said Savage, ” They help the kids that come here after school with homework, with extra reading time, and with other supplemental activities that they need to work on, in addition to their regular school work.  So it offers them the opportunity to be with kids, to have experience teaching with the kids, and implementing some lesson plans as they go.”

For the aspiring teacher, this is a great opportunity.  “It offers us some free staffing,” said Savage, “And in return, they’re getting that experience that really can look nice on their resumes and their recommendations as they go into the teaching field after school.”

The NMCYF is encouraging anyone interested to call them.  “If there are other college students around the region that are looking for some hands on experience,” Savage said, “If they’re willing to give the time to volunteer with us, we certainly would be happy to speak with them.”
