Press Release and Scheduled Provided by the North Missouri Sportsman’s Alliance:
The Fourth Annual North Missouri Outdoor Classic will be held February 26-27 at the Chillicothe High School. The annual event is sponsored by the North Missouri Sportsman’s Alliance (NMSA), a non-profit organization based in Linn, Livingston, Carroll and Daviess counties.
“We were very fortunate in being able to sign a contract to bring in one of the more popular hunting teams on television today,” said Steve Shoot, president of the NMSA. “Driven TV’s Pat Reeves and Nicole Jones will be headlining what we believe is already the best group of speakers we’ve ever had.”
The Outdoor Classic also features a wide variety of activities with the designed purpose of making the two-day show a family event. The Outdoor Classic will have a number of booth displays and merchants selling outdoor oriented merchandise, programs and seminars by professional hunters and fishermen, and much more. Miss Missouri Erika Hebron, O’Fallon, will also make a special appearance on February 26.
“Our goal is to always provide a family event with enough diversity that hopefully there is something at the show for everyone,” Shoot said. “We will have a kids only indoor archery range from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and the Cornerstone Church is bringing their indoor bounce house, too.”
Deer hunters can bring their bucks in to be measured by official Pope & Young and Boone & Crockett scorers. There is also a unique Pepsi “Braggin’ Wall,” featuring bucks that score 170 and higher by local hunters. Trophies are presented to the Top Typical, Non-Typical and Best of Show Buck brought into the Classic.
Winners of the NMSA’s first ever Big Buck contest will also be determined at the Outdoor Classic, with the top archery and firearm typical and non-typical bucks taken by hunters in 2010 winning prizes for their efforts.
Joining Driven TV’s Pat Reeves and Nicole Jones in presenting seminars are Jody Niccum, the 2007 World Duck Calling Champion; Roy Roper, tournament bass angler, fishing guide, promoter and public speaker; Roger Raisch, noted author on wild turkey hunting and public speaker; Karl Rice, public relations director for the Missouri Trappers Association and 2009 Trapper of the Year for the MTA; Rick Hahne, who manufactures custom waterfowl calls; and Bruce Niccum, long time sportsman who will be presenting seminars on Midwest striper fishing.
The Missouri Department of Conservation is also providing two speakers on topics of interest and importance to area outdoor supporters, Shoot said. Jason Sumners will be presenting programs on the elk restoration project currently underway in south Missouri. Jason Isabelle will be providing programs on the reasons for the decline of the wild turkey population in the state.
“We appreciate the continued support of the MDC and their involvement in our Outdoor Classic,” said Shoot. “In the past, some of the programs they have presented included black bears in Missouri and also a program on mountain lions was well received.”
Two and sometimes three seminars will be running at the same time, said Shoot.
“This will give those who attend the Outdoor Classic an opportunity to hopefully hear the specific programs they really want to hear.”
The Outdoor Classic will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 26th and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the 27th. The Outdoor Classic is a fund raising event for the Alliance, which raises money for the Chillicothe Hunting & Fishing Club and the Share The Harvest program in four north Missouri counties.
