Information from the Attorney General’s Office

Hannibal, Mo. — Attorney General Chris Koster announces that Marion County Circuit Court Judge Rachel Bringer today sentenced Christopher James Mayo, Sr., 44, to 5 years in state prison after he pled guilty to the class C felony of abuse of a person receiving health care.  Mayo was an aide at Levering Regional Health Care Center in Hannibal.  He admitted that on January 6, 2009, he caused physical injury to C.B., a resident at Levering, by shoving C.B. to the floor, striking C.B. in the face with his hand, and dragging C.B. down a hallway by his shirt.

“That someone entrusted to provide care and comfort to the ill would subject that person to physical harm is simply egregious,” Koster said.  “This office will investigate and prosecute to the fullest extent any case that involves such abuse.”

The Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigated allegations and prosecuted this case in conjunction with Marion County Prosecuting Attorney Tom Redington.

The Attorney General strongly encourages citizens to report suspected Medicaid abuse and neglect to his Medicaid Fraud Hotline toll free at 800-286-3932, e-mail the complaint to [email protected] or complete a complaint form at the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Website.
