Kansas City, MO — A Kansas City police officer accidentally discharges his firearm overnight and wounds his neighbor. Police say around 12:30 this morning authorities were called to the 5600 block of N. Richmond on a shooting call.

The off duty officer said he had unintentionally discharged his firearm inside his home, and the round exited the officers residence and entered the house immediately to the south striking the victim.

A 30-year-old white man was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
Numerous people were in the victims house at the time of the shooting but only one other person was near where the bullet came in.

The 24-year KCPD veteran is on administrative leave pending the Kansas City Homicide Unit investigation.
