One man is dead following an officer-involved shooting early Saturday morning.
According to the Highway Patrol, a trooper stopped to check on a pedestrian walking in the middle of Noland Road at I-70 around 3:00. When the officer asked what the bag he was carrying contained, Scott Williford, 33, reportedly replied, “drugs.”
The Kansas City resident also stated he had a 9 millimeter handgun, and stuck his hands in his waistband as if to retrieve the weapon. The Highway Patrolman feared for his own life, and fired his own weapon.
Williford was pronounced dead at the scene. the Drug and Crime Division of the Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation.
