LEES SUMMIT, Mo. — The Lee’s Summit Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred last night.

According to a press release, officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 700 block of NE Tudor Road fro reports of a suicidal man. Officers quickly reacted and set up a perimeter to ensure the safety of the suspect and those who also lived in the apartment complex.

The subject told officers he was armed when they attempted to contact him. The suspect then fired the weapon through the front door of the apartment and walked outside.

After the subject failed to surrender his weapon, officers fired non-lethal rounds at the subject and he was struck multiple times. The suspect continued to walk towards the officers with his weapon when he was struck by the officers gunfire.

First aid was immediately given and the area was secured as he was transported to an area hospital. The suspect is reported to be in stable, but serious condition.

For routine protocol, the officers involved have been placed in administrative leave until the investigation is finished.

No charges have been filed and the identity of the suspect has not been released.
