In the midst of flood fighting efforts, officials in North Dakota are taking on another disaster. According to Colonel Bob Ruch, Commander of the Omaha District with the Army Corps of Engineers, crews are working to clean up an oil spill amid fear that it could flow into the Missouri River.
“The well is located outside of Trenton off of North Dakota Highway 1804. That site is currently underwater right now. It’s not going to be a particularly big spill in terms of what you can see in these places. Anytime you get oil on water it spreads out quickly and visibly it looks large,” Ruch said.
The oil spill originated from a site about ten miles west of Williston, North Dakota in the Trenton Bottoms area.
