Residents of the Odessa area will need to be cautious when driving on Old Highway 40 in the coming weeks due to bridge construction. Click to hear KMZU’s Brian Lock speak with Area Engineer for the Missouri Department of Transportation Mike McGrath:
“We are replacing a bridge deck over the Kansas City Southern Railroad. The work did require us to actually have to close down the road to do the repairs,” stated McGrath. “It is on schedule to be opened back up by the end of July.”
McGrath says after the bridge deck is in place, rails on the sides of the bridge will be installed and the approaches to the tracks will be tied down properly.
“We did not find a detour out there, but the city has come back and added some detour signs. We [MoDOT] are not allowed to detour over city streets, which was the shortest detour around the work,” McGrath added. “The city has come back as of the end of last week and put up detour signs on their city streets.”
Construction on the bridge is expected to go well into July, with a targeted completion date of the 27th of that month.
