LEE’S SUMMIT, MO – The Lee’s Summit police department says a phone scam has returned to the area.
Officers say they received citizen reports of a scam in which the caller tries to convince residents to buy pre-loaded money cards to pay fines. The scammer reportedly attempts to convince a person of a warrant for their arrest, and then asks the resident for the codes to collect the money. A previous scam involved the claim that IRS tax penalties should be paid in the same manner.
Police say, hang up on them.
