Odessa resident Holmes Osborne announced Saturday his candidacy for the Missouri House of Representatives. Click to hear KMZU’s Chelsea Wade talk with Osborne:
Osborne used the Odessa Outlet Mall as the back drop for his declaration speech. He said Saturday’s event allowed him the opportunity to discuss pressing concerns with area residents. “I chose the mall because it use to be a vibrant area. It brought in a lot of sales and property tax and hundreds of people had jobs. Now this place is about 75% empty.”
Osborne said the current economic climate seemed to be at the forefront of his supporters’ minds. “Jobs seems to be the most challenging issue we face. How do you bring in more jobs? It is easy to say we are going to fix it. It is tough to get on the phone and convince people why they should locate here.”
Osborne is likely to run against Glen Kolkmeyer, of Wellington, for the 53rd district seat. Both Mike McGee and Joe Aull, who currently represent the area, have hit their term limits.
