BOONE COUNTY, Mo. – A Massachusetts man is in custody, accused of scamming more than $46,000 from the Boone County Treasurers Office in 2017.
Kamal Mardi, 34, of Salem, Mass., was extradited from Essex County in Middleton, for felony stealing and booked on a $50,000 cash only bond. The media release from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office says an e-mail sent to the Treasurers Office, purportedly by a legitimate vendor, requested payments be made to a new bank business account.
The Internal Revenue Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Royal Canadian Mounted Police assisted in the investigation that led to the arrest of Mardi.
