BATES COUNTY, MO – A series of vehicle collisions Monday evening placed a Drexel resident in the hospital.

A crash report by state troopers says Donald Wheeler, 66, was a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on Route AA, in Bates County, east of CR 12001. Wheeler was sent via Life Flight to University Hospital with serious injuries. The report states Wheeler had exited his vehicle after it crashed during an encounter with an animal in the roadway. A second vehicle, driven by David Ruby, 52, of Adrian approached from behind, striking a cow in the roadway. The vehicle then hit and injured Wheeler, and struck Wheeler’s vehicle.

The report also listed Deborah Wheeler with minor injuries, and passenger, Marta Ruby with moderate injuries. Ruby was treated at Bates County Memorial.
