The office of Missouri State Treasurer is warning residents of a scam circulating in the state.

Treasurer, Eric Schmitt, says scammers are using a fake caller ID that actually belongs to the treasurer’s office. He says citizens should not provide any information to the callers. The scam consists of attempts to demand payments for overdue taxes. Schmitt says his office is not involved in collecting taxes, and will not call to demand payment.
