Photo Exhibit Winners

Photographers from 20 area communities entered, at final count, 362 photos in the “My Rural America Photo Contest” sponsored by the Chillicothe Area Arts Council. Winners have been selected and were announced at the “My Rural America Photo Exhibit” opening reception Wednesday in the second-floor courtroom of the Livingston County Library, 450 Locust, one block south of the court house square in Chillicothe. Photographs were entered in three divisions of youth, adult amateur, and professional. All entries were taken within 60 miles of Chillicothe. All 362 photos are on exhibit, with the winning photos noted.

“We had a great crowd at the exhibit opening, and a steady stream of visitors has continued to enjoy these wonderful photos,” arts council administrator Julie Ashbrook said. “This was a juried contest, and all photos were numbered and judged only by number (no name) by an international professional photo judge who spent 4 ½ hours judging. He just kept commenting on the fine quality of the photos entered. He’d say, ‘That’s a fantastic photo—just fantastic,’ and then he would walk on and choose a different photo for a prize,” Ashbrook said. “He explained repeatedly that he had to be very picky because there were so many terrific photos.”

“The amazement at the quality of the entries was verbalized again and again by so many who attended the opening reception,” Ashbrook said. “Jim Jones of Dawn, a well-known area professional photographer, said he had not at all anticipated the fine quality of the entries. It is a collection of just super photos, and we appreciate the efforts of all the photographers,” she said.
