COLE COUNTY, Mo. – A Cole County Deputy stopped a car that nearly hit his patrol car Tuesday night, and reportedly found drugs and pipe bombs.

The Cole County Sheriff’s Department alleges Charles McBrearety, 39, backed out of his driveway into the path of deputy in the 7200 block of Heritage Highway. After McBrearety consented to a search of his car, the contraband was found. McBrearety was taken into custody and officers went to his residence, where his wife consented to a search. Two more pipe bombs, detonation cord and drug paraphernalia were allegedly found. McBrearety told investigators he planned to detonate the bombs at a race track where he works.

Federal authorities are now involved in the case.
