The Odessa Planning and Zoning Commission is reconsidering regulations regarding chickens within city limits. Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott speak with Director of Community Planning and Economic Development Will Osborne:

Will Osborne

The Committee heard from citizens on both side of the issue at Thursday’s meeting.  They have been asked to bring back information on chickens in Odessa and other jurisdictions who allow poultry.

“It’s not that we would be advocating for allowing chickens in residential zones, that’s not what we have in our code now,” said Osborne, “That’s not what we’re saying as staff.  It’s just simply, if it was the desire of the Planning and Zoning Commission to make a recommendation for that, to have a full understanding of what the impact of that decision might be.”

The Committee will consider public health impacts and any additional staff requirements necessary to enforce regulation.
