On a rare occasion the Marceline Police Department may not have someone at the station to answer the non-emergency phone line in the early morning hours. Responding to rumors circulating within the community, Police Chief Chris Arnold said residents should call 911 instead of the department’s local phone number, if they find themselves in need of emergency personnel. According to Arnold, an isolated event in which a resident attempted to receive assistance by calling the department’s non-emergency phone number prompted the department to remind residents of the importance of using the three-digit universal phone number.
