PETTIS COUNTY, Mo. – The public defender appeared at a counsel status hearing for a man accused of kidnapping a child in Sedalia.

A not guilty plea was entered by Corey T. Owens, 28, to Pettis County charges of kidnapping in the first degree, possession of a controlled substance, third degree assault and resisting arrest for a felony. A probable cause says Owens, who is a homeless felon recently released from prison, was staying with friends when he attempted to abduct a juvenile female who came to the house to visit.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 15, 2019.
