There is an opportunity for your young football fan to compete on a national stage just by being good at the Punt, Pass and Kick Competition for youth ages 6 to 15. Click to hear KMZU’s Mike Stone speak with Warrensburg Parks and Recreation Department Sports Supervisor Alex Kent.
Alex Kent says each boy’s or girl’s age group will be judged on two factors.
“The score is tabulated by distance gained as well as accuracy, so if someone punts the ball 50 yards and they land it right on the center line, then they get 50 points for that specific event,” Kent said.
“If they punt the ball 60 yards, but it lands off to the right or left ten yards, then you take your distance minus the distance they missed the center grid and that’s your score. So, it does distance as well as accuracy.”
Kent adds that the this event is just the first round and could land you and your child at an international event.
“Each age group and each male and female division will have a winner. So, with those ten winners, they all move on to compete in the sectional tournament in the second or third week of October and go through the middle of November,” he explains.
“And if you win at the sectional you have an opportunity to go and compete in Arrowhead on a Sunday Chiefs game day and has your opportunity to make it all the way to the national tournament, which is held during the Super Bowl.”
The competition is on Sunday starting at 5:30 p.m. at the West Park Baseball Complex in Warrensburg, Mo and proof of age is required to take part. Participation is free.
