RAY COUNTY, Mo, — Officers were dispatched on Dec. 26, 2018 to a residence in Ray County in reference to a burglary.

According to a probable cause statement, Austin Russell Berg, III,  54 allegedly broke into a home and stole multiple items of value. The statement alleges Berg broke into the home of the victims and took jewelry and multiple firearms.

A few days after the incident, Berg called the victims and confessed to the crime, saying he would return the items. Berg said he knew the victims were out of town when he decided to steal the items from the house and committed the crime due to needing money for a drug problem.

Formal charges against Berg include burglary in the second degree, three counts of felony stealing of firearms and felony stealing $750 or more.

Berg is currently out of custody and awaits formal court dates.
