RAY COUNTY, Mo. — A motorcyclist lost his life after an accident in Ray County early Thursday morning.

A crash report from the Highway Patrol indicates the wreck occurred on Highway 30 about four-tenths of a mile north of Route HH in Ray County at 3:40 a.m. Thursday.

A motorcycle driven by 55-year-old Russell D. Helden, of Rayville, was traveling north on 13 when it struck a deer in the roadway. This caused Helden’s bike to overturn, and he was thrown from the vehicle in the process, despite wearing a safety device.

Helden sustained fatal injuries in the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash just after 4:20 a.m. Thursday.
