KANSAS CITY, MO – The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for the Kansas City area Sunday, due to smoke from fireworks that was still in the air due to an air inversion.

The statement says the air inversion and calm winds kept the smoke trapped in the lowest few hundred feet of atmosphere. The weather service said the smoke “may cause problems for those with respiratory issues,” and also urged older adults, children and anyone with heart or lung disease to remain indoors Sunday morning.
