A proposal to rezone a former church property in Richmond fell flat during Tuesday night’s council meeting. All eight council members agreed with a recommendation from the city’s Planning and Zoning Board and rejected the request. City Administrator Ron Brohammer said the owners of SLH Holdings had requested the zoning change because they wanted to convert the former Community of Christ Church to an office building. Brohammer says if the proposal had passed, the applicants could have used the space for a variety of purposes.
The Planning and Zoning Board rejected the application earlier this month after receiving a petition with 129 signatures against it. Brohammer said he didn’t feel the request was appropriate given the location of the zone.
The applicants were not in attendance at either the P&Z meeting or Tuesday’s city council session.
