LIBERTY, Mo – A Richmond man found guilty of child abuse and neglect now faces sentencing in Clay County.

The jury recommended a possible life sentence for Dennis Matthews, who was convicted of his role in the death of his three-week old daughter in 2012.  His hearing Monday afternoon is at 1:30.

Matthews’ wife, Rebecca was sentenced to over 40 years in prison. Two surviving children are now in foster care.  It was alleged the couple abused and neglected the children through physical abuse, failure to properly nourish the children, leaving them in a vehicle where temperatures were above 100 degrees, and by failure to restrain large reptiles in their residence, which included an alligator, and python.
