There were a total of five individuals selected this year including Vickie Brown. “She will be inducted as alumni from 1971 and also as a faculty member for over 32 years,” said Dover,”Vickie was hired in 1974 for a 3rd grade teaching position. Since her retirement in 2007, she has been a valued substitute teacher.”
Also among this year’s nominees is an alumni from 1965 who has given 25 years of volunteer service to the district. “Ed Sartain attended the University of Central Missouri where he graduated in 1972,” said Dover, “Mr. Sartain was a teacher, as well as a football and basketball coach for 10 years in Wellington before pursuing a business career here in Richmond. He has faithfully bestowed time, effort, and resources to the school and students whenever needed.”
Next on the list is Doris Cox who served as a faculty member for 25 years. “Doris was a kindergarten teacher at Dear Elementary here in the district,” said Dover, “She currently teaches preschool for the Richmond Methodist Church. We are honored to have her as part of this group.”
Jerry Harrison is an alumni from the class of 1959. “Jerry is a Major General in the United States Army,” explained Dover, “He graduated from West Point in 1963 and he was also an assistant professor at West Point from 1970 to 1973. He’s a member of the Army Rangers. We are thrilled to have a serviceman with his credentials to be a part of this Wall of Honor.”
Rounding out the list is Steve Hitchcock who joins the honorees as a former faculty member. “He was a social studies teacher at RHS for 24 years,” said Dover, “During his tenure as an educator in Richmond, he coached the high school cross country team and was the public address announcer for the Spartan football games. Steve currently serves as the Government Affairs Director for Kansas Agricultural Aviation Association and is the public address announcer for the Baker University women’s basketball, track, baseball, and softball teams.”
