JEFFERSON CITY, MO – A St. Louis area legislator plans to file state legislation that grants the governor powers to limit certain rights, including assembly and speech.

Derek Grier, of Chesterfield, also includes as part of proposed legislation he is sponsoring, freedom of religious exercise, contract and property rights, freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, and purchase of firearms and ammunition as rights that may be infringed upon in light of a “compelling health or public safety issue.” The governor would be granted sole power to execute any infringement, with the legislature having the ability to either limit, or extend any orders. State courts would then be granted jurisdiction to hear cases challenging those orders.
