Classes 4 and 5 wrapped up their respective state basketball championships over the weekend at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. St. Dominic took home the Class 4 Girls crown 61-44 over the Lady Warriors from Smithville. Sikeston boys completed an undefeated season taking down St. Francis Borgia 74-55 in the Class 4 boys championship. Incarnate Word girls captured the Class 5 girls championship topping Blue Springs 59-49 and Mcluer North took home the hardware in Class 5 boys; outlasting Troy Buchanan 63-53. Classes 1,2, and 3 get the Sho-Me Showdown underway on Thursday at the historic Hearnes Center and at Mizzou Arena.

(Washington, DC)  —  The Missouri Tigers were named the 11th seed in the NCAA Tournament’s West Region.  The Tigers will go up against the sixth-seeded Cincinnati Bearcats in a second-round matchup in Washington, DC.  The Mizzou-UC game is slated for Thursday night, with tip-off at 8:50 p.m. Central.  Missouri went 23-and-10 during the regular season, while Cincinnati finished 25-and-8.

(Tulsa, OK)  —  The Kansas Jayhawks were named one of the four number-one seeds in the NCAA Tournament.  KU is the top seed in the Southwest Region.  The Jayhawks will open play on Friday against 16th-seeded Boston University.  Kansas finished the regular season 32-and-2 after winning the Big 12 tournament with an 85-73 win over Texas on Saturday.  BU sports a 21-and-13 record.

(Tucson, AZ)  —  The Kansas State Wildcats secured the five seed in the NCAA Tournament’s Southeast Region.  K-State will open Thursday night against the 12th-seeded Utah State Aggies in Tucson, Arizona.  Tip-off for that game is set for 8:57 p.m. Central.  Kansas State put together a 22-and-10 regular season.  Utah State was 30-and-3 overall, including a 15-and-1 mark in the WAC.

(Greensboro, NC)  —  Nolan Smith registered game-high’s with 20 points and 10 assists to lead fifth-ranked Duke in a 75-58 win over number-seven North Carolina in the ACC Tournament Final.  Smith says a lot of focus and determination led to winning the ACC Tournament championship. Seth Curry and Kyle Singler netted 11 points apiece for the Blue Devils, who beat Maryland and Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals and semis, respectively, and clinched an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament with the victory over UNC.  The Tar Heels claimed the ACC regular season title after beating Duke, 81-67, last Saturday.

(Indianapolis, IN)  —  Jared Sullinger scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for number-one Ohio State as they won the Big Ten Tournament championship game over Penn State, 71-60.  Buckeyes guard David Lighty says being the top overall team in the NCAA Tournament doesn’t put any added pressure on them. William Buford chipped in with 18 points to pace the Buckeyes, who were selected as the top overall seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament.  The Buckeyes will play in Cleveland against either Texas-San Antonio or Alabama State, which matchup in the inaugural First Four round.

(Atlanta, GA)  —  Brandon Knight netted a game-high 17 points to pace 16th-ranked Kentucky in a 70-54 victory over number-12 Florida in the SEC Tournament championship game.  Kentucky head coach John Calipari says they know their identity as a team now and have been playing really good basketball at the right time. Terrence Jones added 16 points and seven rebounds and Darius Miller finished with 15 points for the Wildcats, who punched a ticket to the NCAA Tournament and claimed their second straight and 27th overall SEC tournament title.

(Maryvale, AZ)  —  Kyle Davies got roughed up to the tune of eight hits and five runs in two innings as the Brewers beat the Royals 7-5 in Cactus League play at Maryvale Baseball Park.  Mike Aviles and Eric Hosmer each had two hits, and Alcides Escobar homered for Kansas City.  The Royals dropped to 10-6-and-1 on the spring.  They have an off-day today before hosting the A’s Tuesday in Surprise.

DORAL, Fla. (AP) – Nick Watney is $1.4 million richer today. The 29-year-old American rallied to shoot a final-round 67 and edge Dustin Johnson by two shots to win the World Golf Championship’s Cadillac Championship at the Blue Monster at Doral.
