(Surprise, AZ) —
Mike Moustakas singled in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Royals edged the San Diego Padres 4-3 in Cactus League play in Surprise. Center fielder Lorenzo Cain turned a diving catch into a game-ending double play in the ninth to preserve the win. Jesse Chavez got the win in relief and Gaby Hernandez the save. Clint Robinson had an RBI triple and an RBI double for KC. The Royals take on the Los Angeles Dodgers today in Glendale.

Lance Jeter totaled 16 points, seven rebounds and seven assists to lead Nebraska to a 69-58 win over 24th-ranked Missouri at the Devaney Center. The Huskers went on a 17-2 run in the second half to pull away. Nebraska improved to 19-and-10 overall and 7-and-8 in the Big 12. Marcus Denmon had 19 points for the Tigers, who fell to 22-and-8 and 8-and-7. MIzzou hosts KU Saturday.

Second-ranked Kansas hosts 22nd-ranked Texas A&M at Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks have won three straight and hold a half-game edge on eighth-ranked Texas atop the Big 12 at 12-and-2. KU is 27-and-2 overall. The “Kansas City Star” reports guard Tyshawn Taylor has been reinstated after his suspension for violating team rules. The Aggies come in 22-and-6 and 9-and-5.

(Kansas City, MO) — A work stoppage in the NFL will result in paycuts for all Chiefs employees, including GM Scott Pioli, president Mark Donovan and head coach Todd Haley. The “Kansas City Star” cites a team source as saying the salary-reduction plan would be phased over eight months. No employees will be laid off or furloughed. The collective bargaining agreement expires on Thursday.
