Press Release from the Missouri Department of Transportation:
RICHMOND, MO. – The Missouri Department of Transportation has finished the Route 13 Bridge north of Richmond more than one week early, opening the bridge by end of the day, Monday, June 6. This bridge was replaced as part of the Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program.
The crew closed the bridge on May 9, completing the new structure and opening the road in 28 days. The original Route 13 Bridge was built in 1931, and carries more than 3000 vehicles per day.
Statewide, the program to improve 800 of Missouri’s worst bridges in five years is more than halfway complete, with a new bridge opening every two and a half days. In the Kansas City area, MoDOT will replace or repair 145 bridges – 22 in Ray County. Complete bridge closure is necessary to allow the contractor to complete the work quickly and open the bridges faster.
