Ruth Flora Goettling (Matthews), 102 of Higginsville, Missouri passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at her home in Higginsville.

Ruth was born Thursday, August 9, 1917 in Miami, Missouri to Henry W. Matthews and Bertha L. Matthews (Jaspering). She married Arthur “Art” Goettling on June 6, 1937. He preceded her in death on July 27, 2010.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and through the years, active in many church activities.

Her early years were spent on a farm near Lexington, MO. After marriage she and Art farmed and operated a dairy farm. In the early 40’s they purchased and operated the Higginsville Dairy. In the 60’s she worked with Art in the motel business, first with Park Lane Motel and later building and operating Camelot Best Western Inn. She was active with several community organizations and also with the Missouri Hotel & Motel Association, and Missouri Tourism.

Surviving are one daughter, Patty Minks of Higginsville; three grandchildren, Michelle (Terry) Bosley, Mike (Vicki) Minks, Mark (Lois) Minks; eight great grandchildren, Jason, Ashley, Teneal, Brian, Andrew, Katelyn, Aaron, and Tim; seven great-great grandchildren, Nicholas, Ryleigh, Hunter, Austin, Nixon, Delaney, Lucas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Art.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Interment will follow the service in the City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM at the church.
