SALINE COUNTY, Mo. – The jury trial of a Saline County murder case was put on hold after a hearing Tuesday afternoon.

During a pre-trial conference for James Scott Miller, 56, of Marshall, the defense allowed the prosecution an order of protection and waived a request for a speedy trial. The defendant also asked the court for permission to travel to Kansas City to meet with his attorney. The date and time of the trip will be provided to the court. Miller is charged with second degree murder and armed criminal action in the December 2018 shooting death of Joshua C. Smith, 31, in Marshall.

A case review is scheduled for July 22, 2019.
