Billy Butler and Mike Moustakas each had two RBIs last night as the Kansas City Royals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-6. Five other players drove in runs for the Royals including Melky Cabrera, who homered in the seventh. Jeff Francis pitched six solid innings for his fifth win of the season. The Royals take two out of three in the series and head to Cleveland for a three game weekend series beginning tonight. Felipe Paulino for the Royals against the Tribe’s Ubaldo Jiminez.

Matt Holliday belted a three-run homer to help the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-4 last night. David Freese hit the go-ahead single in the fifth for the Cardinals, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Pittsburgh lost for the sixth time in nine games. The Cards and Pirates continue the weekend series tonight at Busch Stadium. Jake Westbrook for the Redbirds against the Bucs’ James McDonald.

Missouri State quarterback Trevor Wooden will miss the season opener next week after being suspended for violating team rules. Coach Terry Allen says Wooden made a poor decision, but will continue practicing with the team. Allen says Wooden could earn his job back for the second game of the season.
