The Royals wrapped up their regular season with a 1-0 loss in Minnesota, but that was just a sidelight to a wild finish in the American League wild card race.
That big hit came in the bottom of the 12th inning.
The Rays were down 7-0 as late as the 7th inning of this one. They got 6 in the eighth and one in the ninth to tie it.
Moments before, the Red Sox blew a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the ninth, losing to the Orioles in Baltimore 4-3. The Rays travel to Texas to open the American League Division Series with the Rangers on Friday. That will be an intriguing match up. Rangers star outfielder Josh Hamilton was a first round draft pick of the Rays in 1999. The Other Divisional match-up has Detroit travelling to New York to play the Yankees that series also opens on Friday.


In the National League it will be the Cardinals and the Phillies in the NL Divisional series after an amazing September by the Redbirds.
The Cardinals Albert Pujols. St Louis beat Houston 8-0 behind a strong outing from Chris Carpenter while the Braves blew a 3-0 lead and lost to the Philles 4-3 in 13 innings. The other NL Divisional match-up pits the Arizona Diamondbacks against the Miwaukee Brewers.


The St. Louis Rams are hopeful running back Steven Jackson will have a larger role this week. Jackson was limited in practice yesterday and Coach Steve Spagnuolo says Jackson wasn’t at full speed. But Spagnuolo adds the running back has improved from a right quadriceps injury sustained in the season-opener.


Interim Big 12 Commissioner Chuck Neinas says he’s confident Missouri will stay in the conference. Mizzou is the latest Big 12 school in the spotlight, considering whether to stay in the league or move to another conference. The Big 12 has already lost Texas A&M to the Southeastern Conference.


Cass Midway High School will host “Return of the Vikings” tonight. This is a celebration of 50 seasons of Cass-Midway Viking football. A reception will be held for all former players and coaches in the elementry gym beginning at 5:30pm this evening.
