The High School Football Game of the Week travels to Kansas City on Saturday as the Richmond Spartans take on the O’Hara Celtics in a Class three quarter final re-match. Spartans’ Head Coach Rob Bowers knows his team has a tough challenge ahead.

Riots broke out in State College in the wake of the firing of Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno.
Police in riot gear were called out after hundreds of students took to the streets after learning of Paterno’s firing. Another crowd was gathered outside of Paterno’s house. Paterno’s dismissal came as the school is embroiled in a child sex-abuse scandal involving former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. The 84-year-old Paterno had been Penn State’s head coach since 1966.
AFC West rivals each desperate for a win will clash when the Chargers host the Oakland Raiders on “Thursday Night Football” in San Diego. Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer says he’s very prepared for tonight’s game.
Palmer has thrown six interceptions in his first two games with the Raiders, both losses. The Chargers dropped a 45-38 home shootout to the unbeaten Packers Sunday. Philip Rivers threw four TD passes but was also picked three times, including two for TD’s. San Diego has lost three straight, leaving the Bolts, Raiders and Chiefs tied atop the AFC West at 4-and-4. The Chiefs host Denver on Sunday.
The Chiefs have spent this week doing just about everything they can think of to prepare for Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow. Wide receiver Jerheme (JEHR’-uh-mee) Urban has been lining up opposite the Kansas City defense, using his speed and athleticism to run it ragged. The Chiefs will get their first look at the Tebow-led Broncos on Sunday, when the two meet in a critical AFC West showdown.
Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg and longtime Cardinals third base coach Jose Oquendo (oh-KEHN’-doh) have interviewed for St. Louis’ managing opening. The Cardinals have interviewed six candidates as possible replacements for Tony La Russa.
Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos was abducted by gunmen yesterday from his home in his native Venezuela where he was playing winter ball. The 24-year-old Ramos, considered one of the Nationals rising stars after hitting .267 with 15 home runs in his first full season in the National League, was taken away in an SUV by four armed men about 95 miles west of Venezuela’s capital of Caracas.
The fighter jets are gone from the flight deck, and in their place is a gleaming basketball court surrounded by bright green bleachers. Friday’s historic North Carolina-Michigan State basketball game aboard the USS Carl Vinson is expected to draw an audience of 3 million viewers on ESPN and gives the Navy a chance to showcase one of its multi-billion-dollar aircraft carriers.
