Meadville Lady Eagles softball team defeated Hardin-Central 9-2.  Tori Baker was the winning pitcher and hit a home run for the Lady Eagles. Meadville’s record is 11-4 overall and 6-1 in conference.  The Lady Eagles are the number 1 seed in District 13. They drew a buy in the first round and will play their first district game on Thursday, at Ludlow.


The Missouri State softball team dropped a 9-0 decision to the National Pro Fastpitch All-Stars in an exhibition game at Killian Softball Stadium on Monday night. Missouri State will travel to Tulsa on Saturday, Oct. 8 for a pair of games against Central Arkansas and Tulsa to wrap up the fall exhibition slate.


The Crest Ridge volleyball team won a tough straight set victory over Northwest yesterday 23 and 24. The Lady Cougars were down 13-20 in the second game before rallying to get the win. Brandi Locke had 7 kills and 9 digs. Bailey Everhart added 6 blocks for Crest Ridge, who run their overall record to 8-5-2. The Lady Cougars host Wellington-Napoleon on Thursday night.


Mike Napoli’s two-run homer sparked a four-run seventh inning as the Rangers rallied to roll over the Rays 4-3 in Game Three of the American League Division Series on Monday evening.  Josh Hamilton added a two-run single in the decisive frame for Texas, which takes a two-games-to-one lead in the best-of-five set. Rangers designated hitter Michael Young says playoff baseball is a riot.
The two teams are right back on the diamond this afternoon for Game Four in St. Petersburg at Tropicana Field.


Delmon Young clubbed a go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to back eight strong innings from Justin Verlander as the Tigers topped the Yankees, 5-4, in Game Three of their American League Division Series. The Yanks will look to avoid elimination in tonight’s Game Four at Comerica Park.


The National League Divisional Series continue today. The Diamondbacks will try to stave off elimination when they host the Brewers in game three today. The Cardinals host the Phillies at Busch Stadium. That series is tied at a game a piece.


LeGarrette Blount rumbled 35 yards to the endzone with just under four minutes to play, giving the Buccaneers a 24-17 victory over the Colts on “Monday Night Football.”  Blount carried the ball 25 times for 127 yards for Tampa Bay, which improved to 3-and-1 on the season. Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman says not every win can be ideal.
Freeman threw for 287 yards with a touchdown and also ran for 27 yards and a score in the win. The loss keeps the Colts winless at 0-and-4 on the season. They’ll host the Chiefs Sunday in Indianapolis. That means Kansas City will be taking on two winless teams in as many weeks.
