The Missouri Western women’s soccer team struggled in Kirksville against the Truman State Bulldogs in MIAA soccer action falling 1-0. Western drops to 3-5 on the season and 0-2 in MIAA action. The Griffons return to action on Saturday. They travel to Bolivar to take on the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. Game time is set for 2:00 pm.


Missouri State opened its fall baseball campaign with a 10-3 victory over the Ontario Blue Jays Tuesday afternoon at Hammons Field. The Bears scored eight times over the first five innings and banged out 12 hits in all, while seven MSU pitchers combined to strike-out 17 batters and hold the visitors to six hits.


A heartbreaking three-set loss for the Knob Noster Volleyball team last night in Richmond. The Lady Panthers fell 18, 25 and 28. Knob Noster Head Coach Jennifer Goodrich feels that her team has made great strides over the course of the season. The Lady Panthers return home for a match against Holden tomorrow night.


Ben Francisco’s pinch-hit, three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning proved to be the difference as the Phillies took command of their National League Division Series with a 3-2 win over the Cardinals in Game Three last night.
Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols says his approach will stay the same heading into Game Four.
The Cards outhit the Phils, 12-7, in defeat.  The series stays at Busch Stadium for Game Four tonight.


Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has been fined for criticizing an umpire in a televised interview during a playoff game. Major League Baseball fined La Russa an undisclosed amount for his remarks Sunday night. He told TBS that plate umpire Jerry Meals had “two different strike zones.”


Paul Goldschmidt hit a grand slam and tied a franchise postseason record with five RBIs, fellow Arizona rookie Josh Collmenter held Milwaukee to two hits over seven innings as the Diamondbacks stayed alive in the NL division series with an 8-1 rout of the Brewers last night. Milwaukee leads the best-of-five 2-1. Game 4 is tonight in Phoenix.


The New York Yankees are going home to decide their AL Division Series knotted up at 2-2 following their 10-1 rout of Detroit last night. Curtis Granderson made two superb plays in center field and A.J. Burnett hurled 5-2/3 respectable innings to send the series back to Yankee Stadium for a decisive Game 5 tomorrow night.


University of Missouri curators have voted to consider leaving the Big 12 for another conference. Board members unanimously agreed on the decision yesterday after a four-hour closed meeting. Speculation has centered on Mizzou possibly moving to the Southeastern Conference.


Missouri forward Laurence Bowers is out of the season with a torn ACL in one of his knees. Basketball coach Frank Haith says Bowers was injured on Monday. The forward averaged nearly 12 points per game last season as a junior.


The NBA has canceled the remainder of the preseason and will wipe out the first two weeks of the regular season if there is no labor agreement by Monday. The move came after four hours of fruitless negotiations yesterday and no further talks are scheduled.
