Another Sedalia resident is headed to prison following a plea deal on kidnapping and other charges.
Paula E. Hopkins, 40, entered a guilty plea to felonious restraint on Monday in connection to the kidnapping of a Sedalia woman in late October. She and her accomplice, Joseph D. Rankin, 27, forced their victim to write several checks and stay in two different hotel rooms before she was able to escape by leaping from a moving vehicle.
Rankin pleaded guilty to felonious restraint in mid-January and was sentenced to 6 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. Hopkins was sentenced to 3 years.
The additional charge of Armed Criminal Action was dropped as part of their plea deals.
