The Senate Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions, and Ethics Comittee has heard Senate Bill 507 and Senate Joint Resolution 30. The proposals, introduced by Senator Bob Dixon, are both related to vacancies in elected offices, department directors positions, and boards and commissions.

“We could then use the second proposal to lay out, in law, what manner things like acting and temporary directors — those vacancies would be filled,” said Dixon.

Senator Paul LeVota, of Independence, said filling vacancies is becoming an issue.

“’What’s the most important issue that you’re going to follow up on, Senator’ when I’ve been asked that. I’ve said, ‘The boards, the commissions and the way they’re operated. And the fact there’s so many who can operate, due to appointments, or lack of appointment.’”

Both of these measures await committee approval before they could advance to the Missouri Senate floor.
