The U.S. Drought Monitor has listed most of Missouri as being in a severe drought.  Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott speak with National Weather Forecaster Derek Deroche:

Derek Deroche

The entire KMZU listening area is experiencing some level of dry conditions.  Deroche said “severe drought” is the third tier out of five.  Problems associated with this stage include crop and pasture losses.   If the dry conditions continue, the next category the area could experience is extreme drought.  The area is experiencing a six to ten inch rain deficit, and it could take as much as twelve inches to get back on track.  More information can be found at http://www.crh.noaa.gov/eax/?n=drought.
