A man was gunned down outside of a bar in Marceline early Saturday morning and the suspected shooter was found dead a short time later. The shooting occurred around 1:00 a.m. near the OK Tavern in the 100 block of East Howell Avenue. The victim, Robert Brandon Niemeier, 27, was transported to Pershing Memorial Hospital where he later died.
Numerous law enforcement agencies assisted in the investigation that led to the issuance of a search warrant for the residence of 27-year-old Justin Tyler McDowell. Once authorities entered the residence, they found McDowell’s body inside; dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. The investigation is on-going.

On Saturday March 24, 2012 at approx. 0054 hours Officers from the Marceline Police Department and Marceline First Responders responded to a shooting which had occurred in the 100 block of East Howell Street.
Upon arrival officers found the victim, a white male lying on the ground adjacent to the Dollar General Store parking lot surrounded by several people.
The shooting victim, Robert Brandon Niemeier age 27 of Marceline was transported via ambulance to Pershing Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. Mr. Niemeier was later pronounced dead at Pershing Hospital. A search warrant was executed by investigating officers where the supect resides. During the search the suspect, a Justin Tyler McDowell, age 27, was found deceased inside the residence of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Marceline Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and K-9 Unit, Division of Drug and Crime Control, Linn County Sheriff’s Dept., Linn County Coroner, Chariton County Sheriff’s Dept. They were assisted by the Marceline First Responders and Fire Dept. and Linn County Ambulance and the Linn County Prosecutor.
