LaMonte, MO – Pettis County Sheriff’s Detectives, LaMonte Police and the Pettis County Coroner’s Office are currently investigating human remains discovered near US50 Highway and Crystal Springs Road late Friday morning. The location is approximately one mile east of LaMonte in west central Pettis County.

Shortly after 11:00 am Friday, November 25th, LaMonte Police Chief Jim Ulm was contacted by passing motorists of clothing and bones seen in an area off US50 Highway. Chief Ulm followed the motorists back to the scene and requested response from Sheriff’s Deputies. Upon arrival, officers found skeletal remains near a wooded area.

Preliminary investigation indicates the victim to likely be a male who had been hitchhiking or walking along the highway several months ago and stopped to camp in the wooded area. Evidence recovered at the scene shows the victim not to be from the area, but had been in Sedalia in June or July.

An autopsy will be conducted on Monday for positive identification of the remains and to establish cause of death.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office at 660-827-0052 or the Pettis County Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at 827-8477.
