Slater city councilmen and women met in council chambers yesterday evening to discuss a few items of business.

The first area addressed during the May 19th agenda was Mayor Allegris’ Mayors Report. Allegri ran through the 2014 city audit. Assistant City Administrator, Russell Griffith, said the overview was exactly what city leaders expected it to be. Referring to Allegri, Griffith explained, “He says we got an A+ and the auditor always agrees, so I bet it was a clean audit. Real pleased with that,” Griffith continued, “We have an audit done every year just to keep our book work up and in shape.”

Allegri’s report also included the announcement of a few summer fun activities beginning with the city pool opening at 1 p.m. on May 2th. The annual movie night is slated for June 26th and the Splish Splash Bash will be July 30th. Griffith also reminded listeners that swim lesson registration is now being accepted. Those classes are scheduled to begin June 22nd.

Under New Business, just a couple of topics were addressed. First up, was a quick discussion regarding annual liquor license renewals. Of the 7 requests seen, all 7 businesses saw acceptance.

The second discussion item was in regards to a leak detection summary from Westrum. Griffith said this year’s report was good however there were two leaks. “One was the service line leaking, that’s already been fixed. The other was a small main leak that we’ll be fixing here in the very near future.” Griffith noted this is the best announcement he’s seen regarding the water lines, as he has seen as many as 10 leaks on previous reports. The goal of the inspection is to catch and fix the problems before winter comes around each year.

Slater will convene again for a regularly scheduled city council meeting on June 2nd at 7 p.m.
