MISSOURI (USDA) — Small family farms are dominating the U.S. farm count while midsize and large-scale family farms are dominating production.

According to the USDA, in 2015, family farms make up 99 percent of America’s 2.1 million farms and 89 percent of agricultural production. 90 percent of these farms are small family farms and only 9 percent of them are midsize or large-scale family farms. The remaining one percent belongs to nonfamily corporations. USDA also reports in 2015 only 24 percent of the Nation’s agricultural production was attributed to small family farms however, they did produce more poultry, eggs and hay than the midsize or large-scale family farms.
