JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Missouri officials have evacuated two state health department buildings because of snow accumulation on the roofs.

State Administration Office Commissioner Kelvin Simmons says he decided to evacuate the buildings early Friday. Simmons says some people were in the buildings at the time, but he did not know how many. The Office of Administration says 570 people work there.

A winter storm dropped about 18 inches of snow this week in Jefferson City.

Simmons says snow was being removed from the buildings’ roofs Friday and an engineering analysis will be conducted. Simmons says he hopes workers can return Monday.

Both health buildings are leased by state government. Health officials say the buildings include the department’s budget staff, technology employees and community and public health division.
