In High School Football tonight…the Game Of The Week on KRLI Country 103-9 will be Richmond at Holden.  Donn Emis and Mike Stone will have the play-by-play.  And on The Grenade…Colby Gordon and Josh Brunscher will have the Carrollton at Lexington game on 101.3 FM and 1430 AM.  After football here on KMZU…it will be the 5th Quarter Show with a recap of all the Friday Night Football games.

In High School Softball yesterday…Norborne defeated DeKalb 6-1.  The Lady Pirates take on Polo Saturday.  And New Franklin scored 12 in the first inning and went on to beat Otterville 17-0.

Justin Verlander worked eight outstanding innings and Miguel Cabrera belted a two-run homer as the Detroit Tigers downed the Athletics 3-0 in Oakland to advance to the American League Championship Series. Verlander had a no-hitter until Yoenis Cespedes (yoh-EH’-nehs SEHS’-peh-dehs) singled up the middle with two outs in the seventh. Verlander allowed just one other hit while striking out 10 to help the Tigers earn the right to play the Boston Red Sox.

Tonight the St. Louis Cardinals face Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1of the NLCS. Joe Kelly opposes Zack Greinke in the opener.

Jay Cutler threw a pair of second-quarter touchdown passes to Brandon Marshall and the Chicago Bears ended a two-game skid by beating the New York Giants 27-21. Tim Jennings had two of the Bears three interceptions of Eli Manning, turning the first into a 48-yard touchdown. The Bears are 4-2 after dropping the Giants to 0-6, their worst start since 1976.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Louisville’s defense was stifling as the eighth-ranked Cardinals beat Rutgers 24-10. The Cards intercepted four passes and sacked Gary Nova eight times in improving to 6-0. Teddy Bridgewater fumbled in the fourth quarter and threw an interception but was 21 of 31 for 310 yards and two TDs.

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Jeff Gordon will be the pole-sitter for tomorrow night’s Bank of American 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway as he tries to inch closer to the lead in the Chase for the Championship. Gordon enters the weekend fourth in the Chase standings, 32 points behind leader Matt Kenseth with six races left. Kevin Harvick will start alongside Gordon in the front row, just ahead of Greg Biffle and Jimmie Johnson.
