ST. LOUIS (AP) — Adam Wainwright pitched seven innings of four-hit ball last night to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to an 8-3 win over the San Francisco Giants in Game 4 of the NL championship series. Matt Holliday, Jon Jay and Yadier Molina had two RBIs apiece for the Cardinals, who lead the series 3-1. Lance Lynn faces Giants lefty Barry Zito tonight in Game 5.




DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Tigers secured their 11th trip to the World Series by finishing a four-game sweep of the New York Yankees 8-1 in the ALCS as Max Scherzer and three relievers combined on a two-hitter. Jhonny Peralta homered twice and Miguel Cabrera and Austin Jackson also went deep for the Tigers, who will be off until next Wednesday’s World Series opener.



NCAA Basketball

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The annual “Braggin’ Rights” basketball game between Illinois and Missouri will continue for at least another five years. Officials from both schools announced yesterday the series will be played through at least 2017. Illinois holds a 20-11 series advantage, but Missouri has won the last three meetings.




KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Denny Hamlin crashed during testing yesterday at Kansas Speedway. Hamlin managed to get his car back to the garage area, then walked to the care center. Hamlin is third in the Chase standings entering Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400.



High School

The Richmond All-Sports Club will be sponsoring a food drive at the Richmond vs. Lexington football game tonight. The first 200 families who donate 5 items or more will receive a free Richmond Spartans tote bag. This will also be a competition against the Minuteman Booster Club. The team that collects the most food items will be awarded a mini bell trophy to display at their respective school.
